MASEFIELD IN THE
LEAD

NELSON, This Day.
The South Island Hifle Championship meeting opened at the Seabourne range yesterday, competitors attending from the West Coast, Timaru, Wellington, and Nelson districts. Five matches were fired and at the end of the day's shooting W. N. Masefield (Blenheim) led-.for the aggregate with 278. B. B. Jones (Nelson) was next with 273, followed by N. Perjins (Westport) 272, I. Nicholls (Wairau) 271, J. Vitetta (Nelson) 269, W. H. West (Blenheim) 268. and J. Kec-fjhan (Westport) 268. Though many riflemen recorded high scores th,ere were only two possibles; these were scoved by 8.8. Jones (Nelson) and A. Tombs (Blenheim), both at the 300 yds range.
