AUCKLAND V. WELLINGTON

The fourth annual match for th^e Barnett Shield 'between Auckland Harbour Board and Wellington Harbour Board staffs commenced at Kelburn Park this morning. The Wellington captain (Mat. Henderson) won the toss and opened with McLean and | Cutts, Martin taking up the attack for Auckland. With the score at 5 Bennett clean-bowled McLean. Myers was next man and opened his account with a 4. After a beautiful 6 Myers was stumped—26—2—ls. Prince followed and at 34 Cutts was clean-bowled by Bennett, 34—3—6. Cornfoot played out the '/over, but in the next over scooped a ball to Withers, 41—4—1. McLellan was next in and two balls later Prince skied one to the Auckland captain Breese who made no mistake. 44—5 —8. Henderson followed, and in the next over McLellan was cleverly stumped by Barnes. 53—6—4. McDonald was next man to take strike, but he lost Henderson who returned a ball to the bowler. 58—7—12. Reeve followed and with the score at 75 skied one from Bennett and Breese accepted. 75—8—13. Ahem next donned . the pads but1 soon fell a victim to -Bennett. 84—9 —1. Alexander, the last man in, held up his wicket but with the score at 102 was clean-bowled by Bennett, McDonald, the top scorer with 18 to his credit, being the not-out man.

Auckland opened with. Somervell and Beech but after 2 runs had been scored the luncheon adjournment was taken.
