ELLERSLIE TRACK WORK

AUCKLAND, This Day.

After light showers overnight the weather was perfect lor the final gallops at Ellerslie this morning. The course proper, 35 feet out from the rails, provided excellent going, and the No 3 grass and tan were also open. Several horses were ■ schooled over hurdles in the centre and on the steeplechase course. _ Some good gallops were registered. The best over six furlongs was that of Rereatu. Nun Nicer, Mungatoon, Lagoon, Bpris, Royal Appellant, and Gay Broney also shaped well. Among the two-year-olds, Notium, Birthday Party, and Karl, did best. On the course proper, Kelly beat Valspear over seven furlongs in lmin 31sec Afer running the first half-mile in 51sec, Solas went six furlongs' in lmin 18 4-ssec. Landlubber did five in lmin 4 3-ssec. Landlubber has come on very fast. Lady Graceful went seven furlongs, and did the last six m lmin 18 4-ssec in good style. Happy Landing and Maine went a round m 2min llsec. The last seven furlongs were covered in lmin 38 3-ssec. Mungatoon and Nun Nicer went seven furlongs. The first half-mile was done in 50 3-ssec, and the full distance in lmin 30sec. They finished on terms. Rereatu did six furlongs in lmin 14 3-ssec. He carried a light weight,' but nevertheless it was an attractive effort. . Knight of Australia and Shy finished in front of Wee Pat, Mainland, and Persian Lady after seven furlongs, covered in lmin 31sec. The first halfmile was done in 51 3-ssec., The firstnamed pair went well. Royal Appellant and Gay Broney were on terms after seven furlongs, run in lmin 30sec. The first halfmile took 50 3-ssec. Roman Mascot, who went with them, was several lengths away. The southern two-year-old Wagner was much too good for Raepata over five furlongs. The time wsfs lmin 4 4-5 sec. Lagoon shaded Epris, with Kilberis close up, over six furlongs, run in lmin 16 4-ssec. The first-named pair worked well. Gay Princess and Hohana went six furlongs in lmin 19sec. The last half-mile took 53 4-ssec. After breakfast Entail, who started well back from the seven-furlong post, came home in lmin 34 4-ssec, going nicely Karl went five furlongs in lmin 3 3-ssec, hitting out freely. Haut Monde went seven furlongs in lmin 31 2-ssec, the last six taking lmin 18 sec. -~.., Birthday Parly and Bonny Gay did their first two furlongs in 24 4-ssec, and five in lmin 4sec. Greek Shepherd and Spiral were responsible for a sound gallop over seven furlongs,

taking lmin 30 4-ssec. The first halfmile was done in 52 3-ssec.

The Champagne Stakes candidates Black Friar and Golden Blonde went* five furlongs in lmin 3sec. The first two were done in 24 2-ssec. The fastest five furlongs of the morning was credited to Notium, who beat Moquette comfortably in lmin 2 2-ssec. The first two took 24 2-ssec, and Notium was running on strongly, and it was a brilliant effort. Victor Colima finished a useful task in running seven furlongs in lmin 34 l-ssec. Valmint and Fleetwind, on the tan, finished on terms. Their last five furlongs took lmin 10 l-ssec. Free Advice also worked usefully on the same track. THE JUMPERS. One of the best schooling efforts seen at Ellerslie for a long time was that of Scotch Nationad and King Mestor, who finished, well clear of Widden after negotiating four hurdles in the centre. Timed from hurdle to .hurdle they recorded 59 3-ssec, which has seldom been beaten. The first-named pair jumped with plenty of dash and Scotch Nation, who was wide out all the way, impressed most.

Koxy, Adsum, Diamond, Forest Glow, and Puccini were associated over a round of the steeplechase course. After jumping the second fence of the double Puccni was pulled up owing to hitting the fence. Roxy, Adsum, and Diamond led over the hill, and all jumped well till they reached the course proper, where the trio finished down the straight. Forest Glow cleared the sod wall again and finished up over the water jump. They all fenced safely. Puccini, when pulled up, was carrying one of his hind legs temporarily and appeared in a bad way but improved on leaving the course, although displaying distinct signs of soreness.
