Some Wedding CJiftsf. / : A'very cheerful evening was spent at Onepu Hi)ad, Lya|l Bay,' recently when Meidames Pike'and Nicholson were Jipstejse3 '9t-a kitchen; tea :given in honour, o(Miss -Lil Clark,.of Bay Road. Dances and competitions passed the evening all too quickly. When 11 o'clock ■ arrived - the parcels were opened to show many beautiful gifts. A deleptable supper was, enjoyed by all,' and later the. fifty guests rose to sing : "Auld Lang Syne" and give three hearty cheers for the hostesses. Maori Welfare Committee. An organised series of entertainments 4s being held by Lady Pomare's Maori Welfare Committee, A "500" evening at the Y.W.C.A. was a most successful effort, as there was a good attendance, and all present enjoyed themselves. The prize winners were Mrs. Sommerville (first), Miss M. Can(second); Mr. Balneavis (first) and Mr. Otton (sebond) for the men's prizes. Lady Pomare presented the prizes. To Visit England. A farewell tea party was held on a recent afternoon at the home of Mrs. Fox, Northland, in honour of Mrs. Steer, Mrs. Mathews, and Mrs. Piper, who are leaving by the Kangitata on Thursday for a visit to England. The guests included Mrs. R. Feirson, Mrs. W. Ward, Mrs. J. Henry, Mrs. S. Smith, and Mrs. F, Pearson. A dainty afternoon tea was served and a pleasant afternoon's entertainment wag brought to a close with the singing of "Auld Lang Syne;", .' ' ■■/ 'Queen Carnival. A most successful dance was held in ,Miss • Margaret O'Connor's" studio in the interests of. Miss. Phyllis Resnick, one of the queen candidates .in the :amateur athletic competition. This was conducted by the A.F.S. and -Wel.lington Harrier's Clubs, and was well organised with a view to placing the candidate •in the leading position. There was an excellent orchestra which aided the spirit of gaiety which prevailed, and played for Monte Carlog, lucky spot, streamer, and confetti dances, all of which were mgst successful. Miss W. Clifford gave an exposition of tap dancing, and added to a programme of variety which was a credit to the M-C, Mr. Roy Hill, Supper arrangements were also well carried out. under the supervision of Mes- | dames O'Brien, Taskcr, and Spence.
