WOMEN'S HOCKEY
WELLINGTON ASSOCIATION
INSURANCE FOR PLAYERS
Delegates from most of'the clubs in the Wellington district met at the annual meeting of the Wellington Women's Hockey Association, held in the Y.W.C.A. Rooms last night. Mr. J. C. Cusack, president of the association, welcomed the delegates and congratulated the teams which were successful last season. The clubs generally showed a vast improvement in form over the previous season's play, and he hoped that the senior B and junior teams would make further progress in the coming series of matches.
During the year the Baker Parata Cup was donated anonymously for competition between Wellington senior A second team and Horowhenua. The donor was to be thanked for this thoughtful gift, and the annual fixture would be the means of cementing a firm friendship with the Horowhenua Association.
I One of the schemes being contemplated by the association at the present time was that of players' insurance. The whole question, said Mr. Cusack, was impossible in the past for want of support by the members of the clubs. "It is impossible to formulate and supply insurance from inside. If the clubs will only subscribe to insurance we can get the scheme going," he said. Mr. Cusack added that a supporter of the game had made a generous offer. If the clubs would insure up to £5, this gentleman would be prepared to double the amount for them. A subscription of 6d should entitle a player to a rebate of £1.
Miss E. McClelland said that it would be advantageous if the 6d were made compulsory and added on to the affiliation fee.
Mr. V. Montgomery thought that if the rebate amount were made £5 the players would feel more inclined to contribute. There would, he felt sure, be no need to compel members to join in the scheme. The committee should have power to decide how much should be paid out in each .case, and could devise some means of limiting the amount-to be paid out in respect of individual claims. The fund could be supplemented by picture evenings, ,etc. It was decided to recommend to the incoming committee that the insurance scheme be pursued as outlined by Mr. Montgomery. Miss M. Slater said that she would like to see some effort made to establish hockey in the primary schools. Basketball had a strong hold in the schools,, and the Hockey Association should see that interest in its game did not die out.
Applications for affiliation from the Training College Club and the Petone Technical College Club were accepted. The following officers.were elected: President, Mr. J. C. Cusack; vice-presi-dents, . Mesdames Ppulter .and Lark, Messrs. W. A. Scott, F. Katene, Hidling, V. Montgomery, and S. J. McKelvie; hon. secretary, Miss E. McClelland;
