HAWERA NEXT.
Without making undue concessions, the handicapper has done his part to sustain interest in the racing by inflicting penalties below the maximum set out in the rules of the penalty system, and the continuation oi the circuit at Hawera during Easter will find well-balanced fields, the principal events being strengthened by some of the best intermediate horses from north and south. , . , The Hawera Club has maintained stakes above the average level right through the depression, and wnue the numerical strength of the Hawera Cup field is disappointing, the quality of the younger horses is exceptionally good, and the race between Bonny Azure, Subsidy, Ironside, Gold Dredge alone should make for a battle in keeping with the £350 stake. The maiden events at Wanganui were invested with sufficient promise to suggest that there are possibilities in young horses like Sir Frank, Cassidy, and Activity, and the.. Hawera district will-be to the fore with some new blood for the novice events.
