Owing to a ground fog some difficulty was experienced in timing horses early.but it cleared about 7 o'clock and perfect weather conditions" prevailed afterwards. The bulk of the fast work was done on the course proper, on which the poles were out 55ft, and the No. 3 grass and sand tracks were also in use. Several good efforts were recorded, including those of Eereatu, Nun Nicer, Epris. and Kilberis. while Wagner and Quadroon also shaped well over half a mile on the course proper. Valspear came home from the sevenfurlong post in lmin 34sec, going nicely. Solas's last six furlongs took lmin 23 4-ssec. Shy and Persian Lady did seven furlongs in lmin 34 l-ssec. Gay Broney was going nicely beside Hohana over six furlongs covered in lmin 22 2-ssec. The best seven furlongs of the morning was done by Eereatu and Nun Nicer, who finished well in front of Psychologist in lmin -30 4-ssec. Eereatu was a length and a half in front at the finish, though Nun Nicer was conceding him nearly a stone and a half. It was a good trials on the part of both horses. Royal Appellant and Roman Mascot completed a similar task in lmin 32 l-ssec, and Kelly and Greek Shepherd in lmin 34 l-ssec. Both the latter.could have improved on their time. . Epris and Kilberis were practically on terms after six furlongs covered an lmin 20 4-ssec. Both showed plenty of dash. ■ ■ ■ The two-year-olds Wagner and Quadroon finished in front of Raepata after half a mile covered in 50 4-ssec, a smart effort. Golden Blonde sprinted three furlongs in 39 l-ssec. Vera Acre was holding Captain Bruce over s,ix furlongs in lmin 21 l-ssec. ' ■ Knight of Australia gave Wee Pat a start and was with her at the finish of a round run in 2min 10 4-ssec. Wee Pat took 2min 12 3-ssec. They ran the last half-mile in 54 2-ssec.

King Mestoi* traversed a mile and a quarter in 2min 21 2-ssec. The last half-mile was covered in 56 2-sseci

Refresher and Tahurangi went six furlongs in lmin 22 2-ssec. The first three furlongs were done in 41 2-ssec. Lordly Knight, after a first half-mile

in 51 2-ssec, went seven furlongs in lmin 33 l-ssec. He was making a noise at the finish. The only gallop timed on the No. 3 grass was Marjory Daw, three furlongs in 39 4-ssec. On the tan Fleetwind covered the last five furlongs in lmin 12 "3-ssec very easily. Free Advice worked over a round, taking lmin 53 3-ssec for the distance. Valmint completed- seven furlongs in lmin 38 3-ssec/ THE JUMPERS. ' Salt Spray set out to school over four hurdles in the centre. He jumped the first two safely but fell at the last and the rider was badly shaken and taken to the casualty room. Later he was reported to be all right. Puccini, Billy Boy, and Town Beauty went a round ■of the , steeplechase course, finishing as named. They started off at the sod wall at the top of the straight and finished up- by again clearing the fences on the flat, including the brush fence by the. mil* post. Puccini pulled very'hard. H« was twenty lengths in frbnt as they ascended the hill and was well clear at the end. He made a wild.jump at the stone wall the first time and fenced faultily the last time. However, the display taken all round was good. Billy Boy jumped cleverly throughout and Town Beauty, who ' was \ not bustled, also gave a safe display.

Arrivals this morning include Spiral, Moquette, Entail, Notium, .Forest Glow, Haut Monde, Birthday Party, Black Friar, and Karl.
