PETONE TECHNICAL COLLEGE
An interesting analysis of courses being taken by the day pupils of, the Petone Memorial Technical CoUege is given in the monthly..report, of the principal (Mr. A. McFadyen).' A commercial course is being taken by 71 pupils; a home-science;course. by 41 girls; an industrial course ■'■by .135 boys; and an art course by nine-pipils. Since the beginning fil:the!year, 13 pupils have left, 10 haying-gone to positions. ' ' , , : .' ' ' V. In addition to its own pupils, the school has part-time classes for primary pupils—239 girls for cookery, (divided into eleven classes), and 277 boys;for woodwork- (divided into- fourteen classes). - , The evening classes at the college continue to grow in popularity, the roll number having risen from 292 last year to 386, or an increase of over 32 per cent. These pupils are divided into 52 classes. Of .these 26 are in industrial subjects and;.eight ...in.,''..accountancy. Four, new classes were instituted this year in welding, workshop practice, design arid art, and mathematics, and mechanics. A feature of the1 college is the class for the associate membership examination of the ■ Institute of Mechanical Engineers.
