WHANGAREI FIELDS

FORM FOR TOMORROW

(Special from "Early Bird.")

AUCKLAND, This Day. _ In all but one race at Whangarei tomorrow the fields are of average proportions, and the exception is responsible for there being nine races on the card. The .Trial Stakes has drawn no less than 30 acceptors, and this will make a division certain. The meeting will be concluded on Saturday. Unless rain falls between this and starting time tomorrow the going will be excellent.

The win-and-place betting system will be used.

The principal race tomorrow is the Mclnnes Memorial Handicap, which has drawn eleven acceptors, but it is pretty certain that not all will see the post, and eight runners will be a gooa field. Bracketed on top are Boyal Appellant and Monanui, and of the pair the former is preferred, for he showed form on the second day at- te Aroha, winning well under 8.0, and now he has a stone more and the class is not quite so good. Royal Appellant has a good chance, although success will mean further weight in his Ellerslie engagements. Gay Broney is well placed, and must possess an undoubted chance, for he now meets Eoyal Appellant on 121b better terms than when the latter won last month at Te Aroha. . Gay Broney has previously displayed partiality for, this track. Bonny Gay spreadeagled the Ohinemuri Cup field three weeks ago, and a repetition of that form will make her hard to beat, especially as she is going to be suited by from easy to heavy going.. Tahurangi gave his only glimpse of form on the circuit by running second to Bonny Gay at Paeroa and will need to improve. Valrent was running on in fourth.place m the Ohinemuri Cup, and he now meets Bonny Gay 111b better. None of those in the second half of the handicap appeal to any extent, although King Tut and Velocipede can stick on. The issue may be fought out between Royal Appellant, Gay Broney, Valrent, and Bonny Gay. Ten figure in the sprint, the Stewards' Handicap, and at first glance Belkyrian, after her consecutive successes at Paeroa and Tauranga, appears to dominate the position. She. now has to carry 8.7, against 7.5 and 7.12 respectively when she won, but it is more than probable that the allowance will be claimed by her jockey. This course suits the speedsters and in this respect Belkyrian should be able to lead the field. Crooning always runs good races on the Whangarei track, and she won both sprints at the last meeting there. Princess Star had two seconds to her credit at Te Rapa, and Gay Defence is not out of it after his brilliant successes among the hacks. Astarth should be nearing her best, and Triune may be a dangerous lightweight if reserved for this; but he is m both hack sprints as well. On Parade, Tin Xap, and Refresher complete an even field. Most of the horses engaged in the final event on the opening day, the mile Waipu Handicap, are in earlier races, so it is mainly a question of what will be reserved. This is the type of race that would suit Valrent, who may be a good horse to follow at the fixture. ■■.<
