RUGBY LEAGUE
CENTRAL CLUB
, The report of the Central Rugby League Football Club to be presented at the annual meeting to be held in the Y.M.G.A. :■ on Thursday, March 26, states: — ■ . : ~ The club was founded only in April last and although the early months proved a period of great trial, members arid supporters must have been • more than satisfied, with the progress that was being made towards the close of the season. No less than ten of its players gained representative honours, these being L. Merson (captain of the senior team), H. T. Lilburne, W. Dustin, L. Elliott, J. Gunn, R. Prebble, R. Berry, S; T. Atkins, G. O'Halloran, and H. Holmes, while another playe* L. Mercer, would have been one of the first selected had he been available. All these players with the exception of Lilburne, who had. formed a club in the Hutt, would again be assisting the club,* while in addition several other prominent players had signed up. The club, therefore, had reason to look forward to the coming season with every confidence. It was hoped to send a strong side to Auckland in June. During the year the social side had hot been neglected, while the club's picnic had been an. outstanding success. It was hoped to enter two teams in 'the senior competition as well as junior and third grade thirteens, and training had already started. Provision was being made for a gymnasium. The club had been greatly indebted to Messrs. -F. Ball (patron), Will Appleton (president), Geo. Bradley, W. Corcoran; and others for their generous assistance. Although there had been heavy expense in outfitting all the • players, the financial statement showed a credit balance, but this had only been made possible by the selfsacrificing efforts of the club's supporters. ■ ■ .
