OTAGO QUADRUPLETS
FIRST BIRTHDAY GIFTS
Evidence that interest in Dunedin's now famous quadruplets is Dominionwide was forthcoming last week, wheri their patents were the recipients, of about 100 telegrams from various parts pf New Zealand, wishing the children happiness on their first birthday, and the traditional many happy returns, states an exchange. Friends in Duo edin, and many others, who were interested in the welfare of.the babies, preferred to convey their wishes verbally, and throughout the day the home of Mr. and Mrs. Johnson at Caversham was literally besieged by visitors. ■ . •
The least concerned of all about the great event appeared to be the famous four themselves. Their nursery resembled, more than anything else, a well-stocked toy shop, and it was arjparent that. not a few of the babie^' wellwishers had expressed their; congratulations; in a tangible form., A miniature farmyard with all rnannej* of weird animals was the gift of the "Smith Family," of Wellington, and' there was a wonderful collection of teddy bears, dolls, and toys of* every .description; Dominating everything, however, was a magnificent birthday cake.
