BOWEN STREET TRAMS
"There is another 'matter that I would like to mention, and that is the question of providing better access to the western area of the city," said the Mayor (Mr. T. C. A. Hislop) at the annual meeting of the Wellington Chamber of Commerce last evening. "For a long time we have been trying to get it," he said, "but we have been unable to do so for the reason, it was alleged, that it would interfere with, the somnolence of the members of the Legislative Council, because it involved a tram going round there. We were told that the noise of the tram would interfere with the debates in Parliament. I am glad to think that now we are going to be enabled to put that tram through. That will mean a decrease in our tramway overhead, and will be a great convenience .to thousands of our fellowcitizen? "
