MARLBOROUCH MEETING

Keminder is given that nominations for the Marlborough Racing Club's Summer Meeting, to be held on Friday and Saturday, February 28 and 29, close at 9 p.m. on Monday next. From indications it would appear that the club is going to receive very good support for its meeting from horses that will be entered from Wellington district. Promises have been received from Reefton and Westport, and Canterbury and North Canterbury may be well represented too at the fixture. Weather conditions in Marlborough are a distinct contrast this year to what thev have been in February m the lastVur or five years. Whilst no very heavy rain has been ex i eeri en? ed j n *e rains have been well distributed throughout January and^February, and as a consequence the Waterlea race course is in wonderful condition. There is a good sward of grass, and while not being soft, all the sting will be out of the surface, and owners can confidently race their, horses. The'club is confidently expecting the whole-hearted support of owners and trainers from the Wellington district The club, in common with a*l small provincial clubs, has gone through trying times in the past butits present arrangements are such that with reasonable fields the fixture will be a success. Sportsmen across the fatiait are making valiant efforts to keep racing going, as is indicated by the fact that there are fourteen locallyowned horses, practically all owned by separate owners, and that no less than five new owners have come into uie, snort during the last twelve months. The horses owned and trained in Marlborough are good varied sorts, ana should make the contests interesting for visiting horses.
