MIDSUMMER SHOW
Great interest was shown by a considerable attendance at the Wellington Horticultural Society's midsummer show at the Concert Chamber last evening, and the remarkable variety of fine gladioli was the subject of general comment. Hydrangeas, too, have proved themselves fast Qualifying for the position of Wellington's favourite summer flower. As visitations such as Sunday's storm are rare in Wellington at this time of year, it seems likely that a midsummer show would increase annually in popularity, even though no other flowers were shown except those named above.
The following are additional results:—Carnations, amateur: C. Chapman, 2 firsts; Mrs. C. Jones, 1 first. Dahlias, open: A. W. Shanley, 1; Mrs. H. Jones, 2. Hydrangeas, open: Mrs. G. S. Nicoll, 1; Mrs. Knox Gilmer,-^.
