BLUE AND WHITE SPORTS

JUMPER

A soft roll collar and a shaped band on each sleeve give smart relief to this attractive sports jumper. The jumper is knitted in stocking stitch with rows of open lace stitch shaping a yoke, and the lace stitch also forms the top of the sleeve. At the beginning of the next row start to shape armholes by casting off six sts. Cast oft six at beg. of next row, and three at the beg. of thg. following four rows; now X 2 tog. at beg. of next six rows, all the time keeping in pattern by repeating the^Hth ar.d 18th rows. Now work armhole edge straight, keep to pattern, and in the following row cast off the centre 25 sts. for round neck, purl back and, working on one side only, X 2 tog. at the neck edge every second row thirteen times. Continue remaining sts. in pattern until armhole measures 7in "o.i the straight; cast off. Work other side to correspond.

Join shoulder seams with a running seam, and, using four No. 14 needles and the white thread, knit up the sts. around the neck, and work in single rib of 1 plain, 1 purl, for ljin. Cast oft very loosely on the right side. <This collar will now turn over to form a roll.

Sleeves: Using two No. 14's and the white thread, cast on 80 sts. and work in single rib for one inch; change to stocking stitch and No. 10s and work for ljin. Now take two balls of blue and work all but the centre 40 sts. in blue. These 40 are white and stocking stitch, and the blue is done in pattern of *' X 3, w.0.n., X 2 tog., rep. from *. Each row knit one more st. in blue each side from the whit- until there, are only four white sts. left, then knit straight across in blue, and continue to work on without shaping till sleeve measures 4in. Now, still keeping in pattern, cast off three sts. at the beg of every row till there are only 20 sts left. Cast off these. Work other sleeve the same.

Stitch the sleeves in to armholes with a running seam, and then oversew down the sleeve and underarm seams.

Turn wrong side out on an ironing board and iron under a damp cloth with a warm iron.
