METAL BIRD'S HAT-TRICK
On the three occasions that Metal Bird has been saddled up for his new owner, Mr. Clive Kettle, of Greymouth, he has won," and in the Walton Memorial Handicap at the Greymouth Jockey Club's Meeting last Saturday he established yet another West Coast record of lmin 20 3-Ssec for six and a half furlongs, says the "Star." Starting from the outside of the field, Metal Bird had to give the pacemakers, Cheap . Money and Haulbowline, six lengths' start going into the back, but once at full galloping speed the Weathervane gelding gradually overhauled the leaders to finish up a comfortable winner. Metal Bird's only failing is slight unsoundness, and generally he pulls up slightly sore after each race. He is to have: his next outing at the Wellington Racing Club's Meeting, where he has the minimum weight of 8.0 in the Anniversary Handicap.
