BOXING DAY HOLIDAY
GLORIOUS WEATHER
The thousands of people -who, for a variety, of reasons, had not -left- Wellington for a prolonged holiday, took full advantage of yesterday's- glorious weather and general holiday : in order to ■ enjoy themselves. It was: no. day for staying indoors, ,'■ or for working unless one had to, so every- attraction in the way of sport and entertainment was fully patronised, ; and every beach and picnic spot was crowded. . ' Cricket attracted many to the- Basin Reserve;. Miramar was the mecca of tennis enthusiasts; bowling greens, tennis courts, and golf links were all thronged; and all the various-beach carnivals had- their attendant crowds too. ; . ■■-... ' . i In spite of the huge exodus which has taken place., from Wellington during the last few days, there were- more than, enough people left to make such places as Day's Bay overcrowded. Few could resist the temptation offered by the harbour waters and bathing was the order of the day for children and adults■ alike. Anyone who had -any sort of craft capable of keeping - afloat appeared to be using ; it, and the whole coast line was fringed -'with.-, happy holiday-makers. . . , Thousands of cars made a day's excursion further afield, and ;up to a late hour . last night a steady' stream of motors could- be seen wending their way back to the city filled with tired and sunburnt,; but thoroughly happy, occupants. Boxing Day.. 1935, • must certainly be reckoned as an outstanding holiday favoured by perfect weather. ■ •■."■• . ■ ■ •
