TOWN PLANNING
WORK OF BOARD
SCHEMES CONSIDERED
Recent meetings of the Town Planning Board have been held in Wellington for the purpose of reviewing certain town-planning schemes submitted or in course of preparation, and dealing with other business arising for the board's consideration.
The Tirharu Borough town-planning scheme, which has been the subject of correspondence and conferences with representatives of the board for some time past, was advanced to such a stage that the provisional approval of the board was given to the scheme. "This means that the scheme becomes public, and that the Timaru Borough Council will deposit it for public inspection and provide opportunity for objections to be lodged thereto, after which the objections (if any) will be considered by the council and the whole matter again reviewed by the board," said the Minister of Internal Affairs (the Hon. W. E. Parry)' today. "Apart from the partial town-plan-ning scheme for Napier, where special conditions arose as the result of the 1931 earthquake, the Timaru scheme is the first one in this Dominion to receive the provisional approval of the Town Planning Board."
The Christchurch City Town Planning Scheme was again before the board and further progress made. There are several points relating to this scheme still not finally determined, and they are now the subject of discussions with the Christchurch City Council.
Other schemes before the board relate to the Papatoetpe and Dannevirke boroughs. Appropriate action was taken in order to make further progress with these schemes.
The board also dealt with appeals made to it in connection with particular phases of town planning, and took suitable action in each case according to the circumstances.
