MELBOURNE POSITION
MANNING OF VESSELS
MELBOURNE, December 10. As soon as the seamen's decision was made known today the Australasian Steamship Owners' Federation held a hurried meeting and completed plans for manning idle vessels by volunteers, who already are offering in substantial numbers, while more than 200 seamen gathered outside the marine office anticipating the issue of licences.
Arrangements are being made at Melbourne for the resumption of the Tasmanian passenger and mail services. A crew has been secured for the Taropna, which will sail for Launcestoh tomorrow. It is expected that three trips weekly will be maintained. Accommodation is fully booked.
