LICENSING SYSTEM
OPERATION TODAY
WATERSIDERS' STAND AT
PORT AUGUSTA
(Received December 11, 10.20 a.m.)
SYDNEY, This Day. The Federal Attorney-General, Mr. R. G. Menzies, announced at Canberra that licensing officers would be ready at Sydney and Melbourne today to issue licences to seamen.
Severe penalties are provided for individuals or organisations attempting to prevent a seaman from offering himself for employment or for inducing him to terminate his employment. The seamen's strike took a serious turn at Port Augusta, South Australia, when the waterside workers refused to unload the motor-ship Moonta because the vessel is manned by volunteer workers.
