PLIMMERTON MEETING

The December meeting of the Plimmerton Women'Sj Institute, which was weir attended, was presided over by Miss Amo'bre.:' -.-*-' -.ii Miss Maddever,, federation president, very ably demonstrated "Cake Icing." The-,, competition for the. day was "Best-Christmas Cake." The entries shown were very fine samples, and the prize went, to, Mrs. Lankshear. Miss Gibson was Warmly thanked for her very generous donation of three dainty pastel shaded Hand-knitted singlets. These were, competed for, and were won by : Mrs;, Mann, of Pukerua. It was announced that Mrsl Gray, of Pukerua, had supplied all the cream wool; : and ' Karitane Hospital the blue wool for leggiriettes' knitted by the Plimmerton Institute members and 'friends. ".- ■'■!■.: '( ' -U- w Members: accorded Mrs^ Gray a very hearty vote of thanks for her thoughtful gift. A very appreciative letter of thanks was received from the matron of the: Karitane Hospital. A small hamper of dainties was made up and sent to the convalescent ward for women at Pbrirua. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames Hill and Keats. s MEETING AND "500" PARTY. A meeting '.of „the Taita Women's Institute was held, recently, and Mrs. S. Craven presided, over a very large attendance. Visitors were present from Hotorua and Blenheim. - A sub-committee was formed to help with the. children's "Christmas tree," and final arrangements were made for a "500" evening. Mrs. Jackson consented to take charge of the potato competition. The Madrigal Circle entertained with Christmas carols, and Mrs. Tait gave a very clear demonstration of cake icing. Competitions were won by Mrs. Dyer, Mrs. Searle, and Mrs. Diamond. The hostess, Mrs. Jackson, and her helpers served a dainty afternoon tea, and the proceedings concluded with the singing of the National Anthem. A very successful "500" evening was held recently, the winners being Mrs. Reid and, Mr. Haines, booby prizes were won'by Mrs. Cooley and Mr. Wilson, and travelling prizes by Mrs. Ball and Mr; Breen^ LEVIN ACTIVITIES. A meeting of the Levin Women's Institute was held at the Oddfellow's Hall, quite a good number of members being present. The president (Mrs. C. E. Thorpe) extended a welcome to all. Two new members were elected. Mrs. Procter, of Foxton, gave an interesting demonstration of water painting on satin and of making cake baskets from cellophane paper. In addition Mrs. Procter brought many beautiful exhibits of different forms of handcraft, which were viewed with great interest and pleasure. The speaker ,was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. The monthly competition was for Christmas novelties, and the winners were Mrs. Jones, Ist; Miss Kelly, 2nd. The recent children's fancy dress ball in aid of crippled children, it was ! stated, showed a profit of £35 14s. A dainty supper was served by the hostesses, Mesdames W. Hansom and M. Wills, and the singing of the National Anthem concluded the meeting.
