DOMINION TOURNAMENT
THE ENTRIES
For the annual tournament of the New Zealand Bowling Association, which opens at Christchurch on Monday, January 6, entries have been received as follows:—Rinks, 134; pairs, 234; singles, 252. These figures are a record for any tournament in Christchurch. Four years ago, when the Dominion tournament was last held in Christchurch, there were 102 entries in the rinks, 174 in the pairs, and 192 in the'singles.
Included in the rink entries there are 58 from clubs in the Christchurch centre, 13 from Wellington (including one from Featherston), 9 from Auckland (including Whittle's Grey Lynn team, which won last year, and Robertson's Onehunga rink, beaten in the final), 5 from Taranaki, 2 from Hawke's Bay, 7 from South Canterbury, 16 from Dunedin, 2 from Central Otago, 5 from Oamaru, 2 from Southland, 3 from the West Coast, 5 from Nelson, and 2 from Blenheim.
There will also be five rinks from New South Wales. A notable absentee is Professor Maxwell Walker, of Auckland, while R. Pilkington, a former champion rinks and doubles skip, arid A. Englebretsen, of Napier, last year's singles champion, will also be missing. Former singles champions who will be present, are W. Carswell, J. Scott, W. Foster. J. D. Best, and C. Ingram.
The greens are reported as likely to be in. good order for the tournament.
