WELLINGTON CENTRE
Matches with outside bowling centres were discussed by the Wellington Bowling Centre at its meeting last night. The first match is with the I Manawatu Centre on December 18, and arrangements were made for the visit to Palmerston North. At the end of February or the beginning of March a visit is to be paid to Marlbor[ough, but arrangements for this were left over in the meantime. It was decided to invite the Wairarapa Centre to visit Wellington at a date to be arranged.
A suggestion that the results of pennant matches should be broadcast, along with the results of other sporting fixtures on Saturday, was considered. The recommendation came from the Wellington Club, but apart from the sponsor, it found no support. Several delegates pointed out that the results of all pennant matches would not be available for broadcasting till the 10 p.m, session, and even then it would be very doubtful whether complete results would be obtainable. In any case, it would mean that the secretary would have to spend, the entire evening obtaining results, and the delegates felt that that would place an undue burden on that officer. It was decided that no action should be taken, the general view being that the proposal was impracticable. Preliminary arrangements for the entertainment of the New South Wales bowlers, who are to visit the Dominion shortly, were made. The visitors are to arrive in Auckland shortly before the New Year, but it is not expected that they will stay at Wellington on their way-to the Dominion tournament at Christchurch. A sub-committee was appointed to attend to the visitors on their way through Wellington, and also to make preliminary arrangements for matches in Wellington after the Dominion tournament.
Arrangements for the Centre's Christmas tournament are well under way. It was reported that 37 rinks had entered, including. a rink from Thames. , The matches are to be played on twelve greens, arid the Thorndon green is to be used for post-section play, -•- < ■
