VISIT BY MINISTER

GOVERNMENT PRINTING

OFFICE

The Minister in Charge of the Printing and Stationery Department (the Hon. P. G. Webb) made his first official visit to the Department yesterday, and was introduced to the assembled staff by the Government Printer (Mr. G. H. Loney).

The Minister, who received a very cordial reception, expressed his pleasure at having under his charge such an efficient and highly technical branch of the Public Service. He stated that it was the intention of the Government not only to care for the welfare of the staffs under them, but to promote measures to improve the social amenities. "After all," stated the Minister, "life does not wholly consist of earning and spending a few pounds, but in improving the material wellbeing of mankind."

The Minister"" was frequently applauded during his remarks, and at the conclusion was greeted with rousing cheers.

It was mentioned by Mr. Webb that a former member of the staff, Mr. C. H. Chapman, member for Wellington North, would be associated with him in the control of the office.
