VIRTUALLY A TEST
AUSTRALIANS IN INDIA
(Received December 6, 11 a.m.)
BOMBAY, December 5.
The Australian cricket team, organised by Mr. F. Tarrant, has commenced a match with the Yuvraj of Patiala's Indian eleven, which is virtually a Test side. The tourists did well in dismissing the Indian side for 163 and in then making 124 for two wickets.
The weather was pleasant, and the Yuvraj, winning the toss, gave his side first strike, in which he was top-scorer with 40. Mair was the most successful bowler. In Australia's reply with the bat Morrisby and Ryder, in an unbroken third-wicket partnership, played flawlessly.
Bowling: Leather, two wickets for 18 runs; Hendry, one for 12; Ironmonger, none for 30; Oxenham, two for 42; Mair, five for 50.
