Wakefield, the former Rugby "Blue," in a bright speech in the House of Commons when moving the Address in Reply, said that he was still raw, and begged the forbearance of members if he should cross the white line. He stressed the aviation passage in the King's Speech, aries, ' alluding to the custom since the days of Guy Fawkes's plot, said the cellars of the House of Commons might be searched, but the real threat was from the clouds. ■ A Conservative member, Sir Charles Barrie, seconded the motion. He humorously congratulated Mr. Wakefield on a fine run. ' ' The House then adjourned. ". : In the House of Lords, the young Earl Birkenhead moved the Address. ; Facially he resembles his father, but is slim and less tall. He spoke with some hesitation.. Lord Snell, Leader of the Opposition, said that the Labour Party had less than a dozen effective membera in the House of Lords, though they represented eight million votes out» side. .
