MORE WIND
BUT FAIR AND MILD
Special forecast for Wellington:— Fresh- to strong: north-westerly winds. Weather fair and imild..
The general forecast for the Dominion as a whole, issued at noon today, is for northerly to north-westerly winds which will be strong about Cook and Foveaux Straits. Otherwise winds will be only moderate in force, with a .change to southerlies after about 24 'hours over the southern half of the South Island. The weather will be fair and mild at first, but it will cloud over later in western and far southern districts and rain will develop there.
Barometers are still high over the Dominion and the weather has continued to be fine and warm generally. A slight depression passing in the south last night, however, was responsible for strong northerly winds about Cook and Foveaux Straits and for a few isolated showers on the West Coast of the South Island in the far south.
Auckland's weather yesterday was fine and warm, the wind being a light one from the north-east. The wind direction this morning, however, was south-east.
Wellington had fair and warm weather, although for the most part it was cloudy, the hours of bright sunshine totalling only 5.2. A moderate to fresh northerly wind prevailed and gale force was reached at times between 3.15 a.m. and 5.30 a.m. today.
Christchurch had a fine and very warm day with a light wind from the north-east. It was calm and clear at 9 a.m. today and still warm.
Dunedin also had a warm and sunny day with a light northerly wind. It was calm and overcast there this morning.
