Sir, —With reference to the reported high speed of an" inspector—Bo milesper hour—may I be granted the privilege of submitting to the traffic controlling authorities and motor unions -a few plain facts. The first is that the motor traffic, including cars, lorries, and motor-cycles, has long since got out of control as regards speed. The speed limits in the city are a "washout." Secondly, the road manners which used to exist are replaced by recklessness and go-as-close-as - you - can - without-killing - someone methods. Thirdly, too many youths and children are driving highpowered vehicles. Our roads and streets are now swarming -with highpowered machines, and no attempt is made to place restrictions on horsepower or speed of imported vehicles, which is the only way to deal with the problem. An inspector has to attain 80 miles per hour to overhaul a car. Does this not support the plea that no car should be allowed a registration capable of such a terrific pace? It appears to me that the pedestrian and cycle rider, who have always relied on a set speed, are to be driven off our streets by needlessly fast propelled vehicles leaping on. to them at over 100 feet per second without warning.—l am, etc.,
