WOMEN'S APOLLO CLUB
"MADAM OF THE RECORD"
A most interesting evening was spent recently by the members of the' Women's Apollo Club. There was a large gathering of members and friends to hear Mr. Karl Atkinson give an interesting gramophone lecture recital. Mrs. L. D. Webster presided. •
Mr. Atkinson presented a most enjoyable and well-balanced programme, prefacing each item with an interesting account of the performer's life and works. x As the lecture was entitled "Madam of the Record," each record was of a woman performer and included works of the following artists: Galli Curci, Marian Anderson (negro contralto), Miliza Korjus (Russian soprano)-, Harriet Cohen (pianist), Wanda Landowska (harpsichord), Edith Prenville (flautist), Beatrice Harrison ('cellist), Dame Ethel Smyth (composer and conductor), Sybil Thorndyke (actress), and the Philharmonic Choir.
The president thanked Mr. Atkinson for his most interesting recital. Supper was served by Mesdames Clayton, Caldwell, and Miss Chihg.
