AUSTRALIA PLEASED

VENUE OF EMPIRE GAMES

"WONDERFUL NEWS"

(Received November 6, 9 a.m.)

SYDNEY, This Day.

The announcement that the British Empire Games are to be held in Sydney in 1938 has created a stir of great pleasure in sporting and athletic circles in all parts of Australia. Mr. E. S. Marks, chairman of the Australian and British Empire Games Committee, expressed delight. "It is wonderful news," he said. He felt sure that the Games would be conducted equally as well here as in any other part of the Empire. There was no doubt that Australia and New Zealand would provide bigger teams, which would to some extent compensate for the smaller teams which must be expected' from distant parts of the Empire.

Mr. Marks added that a meeting of the full Board of Control would be held in Sydney shortly to draw up a programme and regulations for submission to the Empire conference which was to be held in Berlin in 1936.

A cable received yesterday stated that a meeting of Empire representatives in London had unanimously decided to hold the next Empire Games at Sydney in 1938.
