WOMEN IN PARLIAMENT

REASONS WHY

As the political parties have presented their respective platforms or manifestos, Mrs. Knox Gilmer advances the following reasons why some women should be in Parliament:— 1. Nearly half the population are of our sex and Parliament cannot be complete without their direct representation. 2. Women are taxpayers and "taxation without' representation" is a glaring injustice. 3. There can be no true democracy without the inclusion of women. 4. It is recognised by all educationists and thinking men that women's mental power of intuition is of great value and should not be neglected. 5. That laws and administration which which directly affect women and children should have the full consideration of women in Parliament 6. That in several countries women have demonstrated their fitness to be on public bodies and, in Parliament. 7. That women's presence is more likely to raise than to lower the tone of Parliament. 8. That educated women ot experience have as much concern for financial stability as men. 9. That New Zealand should advance from its backward state. [Note: There are 65 women candidates in Britain and only three in New Zealand.] 10. That the attitude of the National and Labour Parties in having no women candidates is a sad reflection when we think of, how they look for women's (support.
