BENZOL CONTRACT

FUEL FOR UNION AIRWAYS

(By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, November 4.

An important constituent of the fuel used by modern high-compression aeroplane engines, benzol, is to be supplied by the Christchurch Gas Company to the Vacuum Oil Company, beginning next year. A contract has been signed for the supply of 6000 gallons in the first year, which may be increased to 10,000 gallons. The Vacuum Oil Company is under contract to supply aviation spirit containing benzol to Union Airways, Christchurch. The gas company at present manufactures 2000 to 3000 gallons of benzol yearly and is the only company in the Dominion making benzol on a commercial scale.
