PROPERTY AND FAMILY

(To the Editor.)

Sir,—A recent news item in "The Post" stated that the Soviet Government has decided to supplement its previous 2,000,000 private allotments of land to families by financing private property in various kinds of stock and the granting of further private property holdings. It is worthy of notice that this policy is the perfect negation of Communism, which demands the abolition of all private property. This departure from Communism is a striking proof of the truth of the Christian law in social science—i.e., that private ownership of property is inherent in natural law—that it is essential for the fathers of families to own reproductive property to enable them to fulfil the duties and'reach the true dignity of human family life. Although the report in "The Post" stated that this step was being taken by the Soviet Government with a view to encouraging the acceptance of Socialism, this is absurd, in face of the fact that .true Socialism (i.e. Communism) presupposes abolition of all private ownership of property. And so the Christian concept of economics is gradually, by the very force of its natural truth, emerging triumphant from the unnatural experiments of man-made systems, such as modern Capitalism and Communism, both of which violate the true Christian concept of private ownership and use of property.—l am, etc.,

d. Mclaughlin.
