MOUNTING UP

HEALTH STAMP TOTAL

The steady support of the public for the Health Camp movement centring round the sale of the twopenny health stamp has put fresh heart into the organisations concerned. The fourth week of the campaign was restricted by the inclusion of Labour Day, a collector's holiday, when the Post Offices were closed, but the Ihousand-pound-a-week average of preceding periods was again nearly achieved, the total announced by the DirectorGeneral of the Postal Department (Mr. G. McNamara) for the end of the period being £3988 19s 7d, comprising receipts from sale of stamps £2119 7s 7d, envelopes £220 10s, and donations £1649 2s.

District totals to date are as follows: —Wellington, £841 is sd; Palmerston North, £398 Is 7d; Auckland, £366 9s 4d; Napier, £350 14s; Dunedin, £313 5s sd; New Plymouth, £273 9s lOd; Christchurch, £265 15s sd; Invercargill, £214 Is lOd; Hamilton, £201 8s 8d; Wanganui, £145 16s lOd; Timaru, £114 7s sd; Oamaru, £111 9s 3d; Blenheim, £104 19s lid; Thames, £100 lls Id; Greymouth, £85 2s 9d; Gisborne, £56 19s lOd; Nelson, £39 4s 9d; Westport, £6 0s 3d.

The time is approaching when the Health Camps are to be opened, and the public response to the appeal this year is encouraging most of the committees to plan extensions of their work by taking larger numbers of undernourished children into these camps to enjoy a holiday, during which their diet, their rest, and recreation will be carefully supervised and the foundations laid for better health when they return to their homes.
