BROKEN HILL TRAGEDY
FOUR MEN DEAD
(Received October 19, 11.30 a.m.) ' BROKEN HILL, This Day. " A mining tragedy occurred when; four men were trapped and overcome by gas in a seepage tunnel used for the drainage of waste water. The vie-' tims were Richard Slee, manager oJ! the mine, Joseph Giffin, chief engineer, Albert Taylor, shift boss, and Harold Milligan, labourer. A failure 'of the system had caused foul air to penetrate into the main, streets of Broken Hill, and lour men entered the; tunnel to investigate. Rescuers risked death, breathing poisonous air and wading up to their decks iii foul water. They found! Milligan still breathing, but he died! oh the way fo hospital.
