TAUMARUNUI MEETING

OPENING DAY AT PAEROA

The postponed meeting of the Taumarunui Racing Club is scheduled to be held at Paeroa tomorrow and on Monday, and it is probable that the club, will ..be able to report a success, despite the fact that the fixture is a week overdue. Wiiyand-place betting, as previously mentioned, will be the totalisator system used. It is possible that the delay in getting the meeting oft" will result in quite a number of scratchings. Since her dual victory at Avondale, Imamint has been galloping very well, and she will start a very warm favourite in the Taumarunui Cup, the distance. 11 furlongs, not being an exacting one on this track. The defection of Gay Marigold1 and Sir Abb over a week ago left eight in this event, and Velocipede, Baroscope (who will be ridden by H. N. Wiggins), Gay Rose; and Grand Talk are certain to line up, according to latest advices. It is difficult, however, to see Imamint being beaten with 7.1, after winning at Avondale under 7.8 and 7.2 respectively, and in better fields each time than that she will meet tomorrow. Had a rehandicapping clause been included in the conditions of the Taumarunui. programme Imamint would have had to go up at least a stone. The advantage of early condition will not be so evident now with horses given another week's preparation consequent upon the postponement, and as this was probably one' of the reasons for the successes of Royal Secret and Tin Lap at Avondale some of the beaten division and fresh horses may be good enough now to turn.the tables. ■ ■ The two-year-olds Maxown and Rulette, in.- A;.
