WOODVILLE MEMBERSHIP
(Special to the "Evening Post.")
PALMERSTON N., This Day. The annual meeting of the Woodville District Jockey Club attracted the largest attendance in the history of the club. An animated discussion.. arose over the incident that resulted in the rejection, of twenty-seven candidates for membership at the last meeting of stewards. Although the debate on this1 point at times became quite heated, it ended on a happy note.
Upon the close of the discussion Mr. R. R. Johnston proposed the following motion, which was seconded by many voices: "That .this general meeting of the members of the Woodville District Jockey Club regrets the incident and, desires that each of those twenty-seven candidates be written to explaining the circumstances, and asking them to allow themselves to be renominated for membership." The motion was - carried unanimously. The treasurer, Mi*. J. Elder, was reelected, and Messrs. G. Peebles, R. Bly, W. H. Brotherstone, and G. B. de Ath were elected to the four vacancies on the committee' of stewards. All with the exception of Mr. Brotherstone were retiring stewards. ~ ;
