TOTALISATOR FRAUD
As a result of an investigation by an officer of the State Auditor-General's Department into alleged irregularities m the office of Automatic Totalisators, Ltd., which was made at the request of the company, it has been proved that the loss by fraud on the Unclaimed Dividends Fund amounts to about £100 A. report by the Auditor-General (Mr. J. A. Norris) was furnished to the Victorian Premier (Mr. A. A. Dunstan) last week (says a Melbourne report). The report stated that at a conference with the general manager of the company (Mr. L. L. Raymond), at which the Under-Secretary (Mr. L. L. Chapman) was present, it was decided to introduce a better system of internal check by the company, as well as a more searching examination by the totalisator inspectors. Although the inspection costs would be increased, it was very desirable that the administra--lion and control should be satisfactory. The responsibility for the defalcations by an officer of the company is accepted by the company, and it would be reasonable to suggest that, the sum of £200 should be paid .by the company into the, Unclaimed: Dividends Fund.
