ALSATIAN DOG
NAME IN DISPUTE ADELAIDE, July 20. At the last meeting of the South Australian Kennel Association affiliation was granted to the newly-formed branch of the German Shepherd Dog League of Australasia, and a motion was carried that "at all shows held under association rules the Alsatian must be given its correct name—German shepherd dog." . . It was also decided that persons registering these dogs with the association must use the name "German shepherd dog." At a general meeting of the Alsatian Club of South Australia, a resolution was adopted strongly protesting against any club affiliated with it or the South Australian Poultry and Kennel Club designating Alsatians as German shepherd dogs. Articles were read from the latest English dog book showing that, in England, the term "Alsatian" is used. The secretary (Mrs. V. A. Zed) said that what was good enough for England was good enough for them. Members of the club were proud of the name "Alsatian," and would not countenance its alteration.
