LORD AMPTHILL
(Received July 8, noon.) LONDON, July 7. Obituary.—Lord Ampthill.
Arthur Oliver Villiers Russell, second Baron Ampthill, was born in 1869 and succeeded his father in 1884. He was a founder of the National Party in 1918 and for a time was active in politics, serving as private secretary to Mr. Joseph Chamberlain from 1895 to 1900. From 1899 to 1906 he was Governor of Madras, and he acted for a time as Viceroy of India. He served through the Great War with the Bedfordshire Regiment and was three times mentioned in dispatches. A great rower, he was in the Eton eight and jOxford University eight and. won the Silver Goblets at-Henley.
