VISIT TO AMERICA
AUSTRALIAN PRIME MINISTER
TO STAY AT WHITE HOUSE
NEW YORK, July 6.
The Prime Minister of Australia, Mr. J. A. Lyons, arrived from Italy in the liner Rex accompanied by his wife and staff en route to' Washington and Ottawa. ■ Of the Washington trip Mr, Lyons said: "Naturally we will discuss, matters of mutual interest. I have no proposition for a trade treaty with Australia." . ■ In. a broadcast speech, which was relayed via short wave to Britain and Australia, Mr. Lyons * urged the need for. a better understanding between the peoples of Australia, America, and Britain. "The people of these countries," he said, "have a great deal in common besides the heritage'of speech, and should learn to-understand ' each' other better, because the great need of the world today is friendship." Mr. Lyons told something of his mission to England and took the opportunity to thank the British people for his welcome there. Mr. Lyons and Mrs. Lyons will be the guests of the President and Mrs. Roosevelt at White House during their stay at Washington. ■
