With trumpets, drums, and martial ipotnp, (lie ex-Kaiser's army was resuscitated when 350,000 assembled at Kas.sel for Warriors*1 Day, organised uy the Kyfthauscr Union. The numbers of ex-soldiers transcended anything: Germany has seen since the Great War. Herr Hitler, to whom they swore fealty as Commander-in-Chief, was a corporal when they filled the fighting -lines. Sleep was impossible while the army, under 20,000 flags, marched through Kassel all night. Some men limped and others bore empty sleeves, but all marched triumphantly on to the review ground. General Reinhardt, Secretary of State for Finance, welcomed the Anglo-German pact, and affirmed the walue of the rapprochement. Front-line fighters of all nations reiterated their belief in Herr Hitler amid thunderous shouts of "Heil." The march-past lasted for four hours. General Dollman conveyed Herr Hitler's greetings. The graves of Russian and English war prisoners were wreathed. General yon Epp testified to the bravery of those who crossed swords with the Germans. French and British . ex-soldiers' unions wrote expressing the hope that there would be a' common basis for future friendship.
