GOOD SPIRIT SHOWN
GIRLS' CLUB MOVEMENT
. As' the result of the financial help given by the Pilgrim Trust, states the London "Times," the new campaign launched by the National Council of Girls' Clubs is making rapid progress, and provision is being made for the needs of women and girls affected by unemployment,, particularly in' the distressed areas throughout the country.
Lady Eleanor Keane, chairman of the council, of which the Duchess of York is president, will act as "House Mother" of a national members' conference, which will last for three days, and which has been orga-. nised by the girls themselves.
The fine spirit shown t>y the girls was mentioned; by Mrs. Cole (club expansion organiser), whd had just returned from the distressed areas in the hard-hit parts of South Wales and North-East England. The gifls there, she said, were ""contributing their quota towards the jubilee thanksoffering fund.
Progress in club, work was particularly good in Wales, and in "NorthEast England great help had been given by a grant from the National Council of Girls' Clubs, and they had made substantial headway. On the Tyneside there had been extension of work" with the help of the local service council, while the National Association of Boys' Clubs was co-op-erating in, many directions. Gratitude was expressed to the Pilgrim Trust for the substantial help given towards the benefit of so, many young people.
