GIRL GUIDE FILMS

THE BALTIC CRUISE

Three moving picture films of particular interest to Girl Guides were shown by Miss R. Herrick, of Napier, Chief Commissioner of the Girl Guide Association of New Zealand, states the •'New Zealand Herald." There was a large attendance of Guides and their friends.

The chief film shown was that of a cruise of the Baltic, made in August, 1933, by 650 Scouts and Guides of Great Britain, in company with the Chief Scout and Chief Guide, Lord and Lady Baden-Powell. Prior to the showing of the film, Miss Herrick explained that the cruise had been an inspiration of the Chief Guide, who, having once conceived the idea of such a venture, promptly commenced its organisation. The purpose of the cruise was to carry a Scout and Guide message of fellowship and good will to the Scouts and Guides in the various countries visited, Miss Her--rick said. It was singularly successful, and the purpose of the cruise was accomplished. The film showed the receptions accorded the British Guides in Holland, Poland, Danzig, Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Finland, and Scandinavia, while the slight variations in unifprms and other points of interest to New Zealand Guides were pointed out by Miss Herrick as the film progressed. Scenes on the Calgaric, the. liner which conveyed the travellers, were also shown. The two other films were views of a large Guide rally in Essex, England, which, was attended by Princess Mary, and scenes taken during the tour throughout New Zealand early this year of the Chief Scout and Chief Guide. This film showed Guide rallies held in Auckland, Hastings, Christchurch, Wellington, and Dunedin; at which Lord and Lady Baden-Powell were present, and l concluded with views of the visitors on holiday in the west coast of the South/Island.
