WEATHER AT TRENTHAM

Although light rain continued to fall in the city throughout today, the weather was much better in the Hutt Valley. Advice was received from Trentham this afternoon that the sun had broken through before noon, and that there had been no rain from early this morning.

AWAPUNI CANDIDATES

(Special tothe "Evening Post.") PALMERSTON N.» This Day. Awapuni stables are well represented at the Wellington Meeting and it will not be surprising if they return with some of-the Trentham stake-money. Saturday morning was a fairly busy one at the course, and the going was I much firmer than for some time past. Petrarch (A. McDonald) and Miss Pango (Parkes) were companions over the steeplechase fences. Both went well, neither touching a fence. Esteem had Hunting Jay as a companion in a round over the schooling fences. Hunting Jay was then pulled up, and Salt Spray took his place with Esteem over a second round. All gave faultless displays of jumping and Esteem, who cleared half a dozen fences, covered about a mile and a half. Hunting Jay went very well and he will strip a fit horse at Wellington.

Maurice McCarten, who is Over on a holiday trip from Australia, was out renewing old friendships on Saturday morning. He left for the South Island later in the day and he returns to Australia towards the end of this week.

Petrarch, Boudoir (Mrs. McDonald), Full Throtle (W. Pine), and Round Score and Hunting Lodge (J. P. Coyje) were taken through to Trentham yesterday.

The following additional riding engagements have been announced for Trentham:—W. E. Pine: Linguist, Korero, Lord Moutoa, Hunting Lodge; A. McDonald, Salt Spray, Petrarch, and Gold Cure (second day); T. Webster, Full Throttle; R. Marsh, Boudoir; and S. Anderson, Master Reynard, Miladi, and Hunting Bag.
