NEW ZEALAND ARTIST
WATER COLOUR EXHIBITION
Many people spent a very pleasant hour or so yesterday admiring Mrs. H. H. Pulleine-Spencer's exhibition of water colours, which isbeing continued for a week in the D.I.C. lounge. It is a very large and delightful display, and the subjects treated are fresh and varied. There are unusual studies of the New Zealand bush and. the kauri forests of North Auckland. The artist has made a special study of New Zealand fungi, and the delicately-painted examples are a specially-interesting feature. Mrs. Pulleine-Spencer, who recently returned from, a visit to Australia, painted many charming and original pictures of the lovely Blue Mountains and other typically Australian sea and landscapes. Whilst in Australia she held two exhibitions, one in Sydney and the other in Adelaide. The trustees of the Adelaide Art Gallery purchased a study of the famous North Auckland kauri trees for the gallery. Several of Mrs. Dorothy Ashton's pic Hires are also on view. These are in quite a;! different'style and also very charming. • Both Mrs. Pulleine-Spencer and Mrs. Ashton arc members of the Auckland Society of Arts, and are regular exhibitors in the Dominion.
