OBITUARY
MRS. ELLEN BALLANCE
A number.of old Wellington friends will hear with regret of the death of Mrs. John Ballance, widow of the late Hon. J. Ballahce, a former Prime Minister of New Zealand, and who took a leading part in the Liberal politics a good many years ago, and who is represented in the Parliamentary Grounds by a marble statue. Mrs. Ballance was the daughter of a pioneer resident of Wellington, the late Mr. D. Anderson, whose house stood alone for many years up on the side of the hill, Where Hankey Street is now a fully residential district. Two son's, who were well known as business men, were the late Mr. David Anderson, and the late Mr. Edward Anderson, and three others were the Messrs. John, William, and Alan Anderson, all brothers of Mrs. Ballance, her sisters being the late Mrs. Annie Anderson, whose kindly bequests to charities in Wellington have left such a grateful memory/ also Mrs. Griffiths and Mrs. Foreman, all deceased. Mrs. Ballance was in her 89th year, and had lived quietly in Wanganui ever since her husband's death, when she ceased to be a kindly hostess and friend at the Molesworth Street Ministerial Residence.
