VOCAL RETURNS TO FORM

Vocal, a winner on the second day of the Dunedin Meeting, showed promise of being useful last winter. He won his first race at the Dunedin Meeting a year ago • and then came on to Trentham, where he beat a big field in the Te Aro Handicap. He failed at Riccarton in August, and then had to be spelled., . ■ ,

Vocal is a four-year-old brown horse by Hunting Song from the General Latour —Petit Tor (imported) mare Misslove,- and like others of his sire's progeny, he is subject to unsoundness. He is also, however,, very much. at home in soft ground, and now that he has .struck winning form again, he. is liable to go on to better deeds, as there is no doubting his ability to gallop when the conditions favour him. He was originally purchased by Mr. G. Barton for 130gs at the Trentham sales, but he was later disposed of, to his present owner, Mr. R. G. Cotton, for whom he is trained by P. T. Hogan.
