MELBOURNE CUP ENTRIES
Nominations for the Melbourne Cup are due next Tuesday, and twenty days later the weights will appear.
This year chief interest will be taken in the weight allotted to Peter Pan. As a three-year-old he won with weight-for-age and as a five-year-old last year he won again with 9.10. It is anticipated by sportsmen that the Flemington handicapper (Mr. J.-H. Davis) will give Peter Pan 10.6 or 10.7. Phar Lap was awarded 10.10 and finished unplaced, after winning as a five-year-old with 9.12. Peter Pan is unbeaten at Flemington, and if he is declared at his best he will be one of the favourites, notwithstanding his weight. Carbine holds the weight-carrying winning record of 10.5. Hall Mark is the probable No. 2 on this year's card.
