CANADIAN TRADE
JAPANESE CURRENCY
(Received May 11, 2 p.m.)
OTTAWA, May 10. Cabinet discussed for three hours the acute trade situation with Japan. Canadian exporters want the Japanese demand for appraisal of the yen at par instead of as depreciated currency, granted. Canad I n manufacturers, however, oppose the suggestion on the grounds that it would open the door to a flood of Japanese manufactured goods, mostly textile, a large part of which is also supplied by England.
